26 November 2014 / Terracotta Army, Xian, Shaanxi, China
The Terracotta Army is a collection of terracotta sculptures reproducing the armies of Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China (210–209BC). The Army was buried with its emperor with the purpose to protect him in his afterlife. Originally, the figures were painted with bright pigments (one of the pictures shows how a soldier looked like). Some of the warriors are being restored: reinforcement of the army will soon be in the trenches ! The Army is located 50 Km north east of Xian and was discovered in 1974 by local farmers digging a water well.
At the end of the gallery you'll find pictures of the street sellers around the Army site. Be aware that if you visit the Army in low season there will likely be more sellers than tourists and you will be a coveted prey.
